Will this light spook hogs?
No. Hogfader lights use gradual “NO SPOOK” fade-in technology. Instead of turning on suddenly, the light slowly increases brightness over time (60 seconds), allowing hogs to approach comfortably. The light stays at full brightness for a full two minutes and the hogs stay calm while continuing to feed.
What color light should I choose — red, green, or infrared?
Red and green lights are visible and work well for most hunters. Infrared (850nm) is ideal when using night vision optics. However, the NO SPOOK fading is not incorporated in our IR light as fading is simply not needed. It changes brightness as needed for power conservation only (immediatly brighter when motion detected).
How will I know when hogs arrive if the RED or GREEN light is very dim?
The two red leds that are built into the light case will both flash on/off 5 times, alerting you that the brightening sequence has begun. Just sit back and watch the hogs magically become illuminated for a clear and ethical shot.
How will I know when motion is detected (IR version)?
When motion is sensed and the light is triggered on the IR version of our light, the two red leds built into the light case will flash on/off 5 times to alert you that game is present. You no longer have to constantly look through your IR scope to check for the presence of hogs.
How large of an area does the light illuminate?
At it’s brightest, the light can illuminate a considerable area. Of course, it depends on a few factors: How high is the light mounted? And, at what angle is the light beam adjusted to, relative to the horizon? For example, If your light is approximately 10′ off the ground and the light is tilted down at 40 degrees from horizontal, it will illuminate an area approximately 25′ wide x 50′ distance and beyond. Any hog within this area will be illuminated well enough for an ethical shot through a std rifle scope. Again, results will vary, based on mounting location and position. I can say that our light gets very bright! Alot of hunters are under the impression that the brighter the light, the better. That applies when you are using a hunting flashlight mounted to your rifle, but when providing light around a baited area, brighter is NOT necessarily better. It can actually prevent the larger, older and wiser hogs from ever approaching. And, don’t be fooled by those ads that show images of a flat panel feeder light bolted to a post that lights up the entire area around a feeder like a football stadium. This is simply false advertising.
Is the light solar powered?
The battery is recharged by solar power. The system requires a 12v feeder type battery. The battery (not included) is recharged during the day by a solar panel and solar controller that is connected to the battery, contained in a battery box. All of this is part of our mounting kit except the battery. The solar panel charging system allows the light to be mounted and left alone for long periods of time. Simply show up and hunt. (FYI, it is prohibitive for us to store and ship batteries and can be easily purchased online or at most hardware, sporting goods and feed stores)
Where can I mount the light?
You can mount our light just about anywhere, quickly and easily. With our optional mounting kit (with solar), you can mount to any type of feeder, a tree trunk, T-post, fence post, etc. For example, if mounting to a T-post, a 3′ piece of 1″ PVC pipe, obtained from any hardware or building supply store, can easily be added to extend the light up to 9′ above the ground from a std 6′ post. The flexibility and options are endless.
Is there a 'training' period needed for hogs to start coming in?
No, for two reasons: 1. The light gradually increases using NO SPOOK technology.
2. Our light is intended to be mounted in an elevated position, between 6′ and 10′ above the ground. That way the light is not shining ‘at’ them. Instead, it is shining downward, on them. This, in combination with our light being very dim when no motion is detected, hogs are not intimidated by the presence of a ‘scary’ light shining in their eyes. They don’t have to grow accustomed to it. Put it up that day and hunt that night.
Is there a warranty included?
Yes. Hogfader will replace any light that does not function to your satisfaction within 90 days of the purchase date. After that time, you will need to contact Hogfader to discuss any issues you may be having. At that point, we will do our best to provide 100% satisfaction.
