I started hunting hogs in south Texas over 10 yrs ago, regularly on a friend’s ranch on the Nueces river. I got addicted. I couldn’t wait to return to do it again. I learned a lot during that time and believe I have created a feeder light system that will provide the best opportunity to take a hog when hunting at night. Between myself and several buddies that hunted that ranch regularly,we tried every trick, gimmick and gizmo that would give us the best opportunity to take a hog each trip. We found that the many lights we tried would come on bright at night and turn off at sunrise. Or, they came on at half brightness and blast to full brightness all at once. This would often spook the larger hogs. The hogs would hesitate to approach the bright light, which was always bright, and the larger and wiser ones would often stay just outside the illumination where it was too dark to see them or at least make an ethical shot. Since 2018, I have been developing and improving the Hogfader feeder light to solve this night hunting dilemma. I needed a light that would come on automatically at dusk, it would stay on all night, very very dim. However, if a hog wandered within 30′(-) of the light, a motion sensor would trigger the light to fade up, getting brighter very slowly over a minute or so, eliminating the SPOOK effect from a sudden change in brightness. I have created that light. I call it the Hogfader ILLUMINATOR.
